The Power of the Cross

“For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its POWER. For the preaching of the cross is, to them that perish, foolishness; but unto us, which are saved, it is the POWER of God!”
The Apostle Paul - I Corinthians 1:17-18

The cross of Jesus Christ is the most prominent and powerful symbol of the Christian faith. Yet, in today’s society, the cross has literally been “emptied of its power.” Many, today, see the cross as merely a piece of jewelry that can be worn on a chain around a person’s neck, perhaps, for purposes of good luck. In short, the significance of the cross has been minimized down to a symbol of fashion. However, in the days of Christ, the cross was anything but a fashion symbol. In Christ’s day, the cross represented suffering, shame, torture and death; all of which, Jesus personally experienced on our behalf.

While the cross holds little to no significance in the world, the Apostle Paul reminds us of the fact that, for Believers in Christ, the cross “is the POWER of God.” Through Christ’s death on the cross, we can experience grace, mercy, forgiveness, eternal life, joy, peace, love, victory, hope, healing, and the list goes on and on and on… As we commemorate the death and resurrection of Christ, remember to thank God for all He’s provided for you through the atoning work of Jesus on the cross; and may the power of the cross transform every area of your life.

Be Blessed!
